My Personal Story

I can sum up my experiences with panic attacks in one word...terrifying.  I can sum up the treatment, working with a hypnotherapist, as nothing short of a miracle.

I did not have any idea my life was about to be turned upside down the day I began to experience the first symptoms of panic attacks; pressure in my chest, constricted breathing, the inability to catch my breath, shakiness, and waves of cold fear that would roll over my entire body from my toes to the top of my head.  My focus shifted inward and I felt like I was going crazy.  Emotionally, I was extremely sensitive.   I wasn't sleeping well and felt like I was becoming a hypochondriac.  To say I was scared and confused would be an understatement.

The attacks were occurring several times a day.  When I talked with my doctor about what was happening, she confirmed what I had begun to suspect, that I was having panic attacks.   She encouraged me to seek immediate intervention and referred me to a certified hypnotherapist.

This was my first exposure to hypnotherapy.  I had no idea what to expect or what this treatment modality had to offer.  I was cautious and asked a lot of questions.   Coming from a traditional Christian background, I was unsure if this was the right thing for me.   I was very fearful.  Fortunately, the therapist was patient, kind, and reassuring.  He helped me to understand what was happening and how hypnotherapy could help.  I decided in that first visit to give it a try and I'm so glad I did.

Within two weeks of working with the hypnotherapist, the major attacks ceased.  I still had individual symptoms that would come and go as different issues would surface, but the therapist continued to reassure me that the symptoms would dissipate as we took care of the underlying issues.   And he was right.  Over the next several weeks there were definite high and low periods but with each hypnosis session, I experienced progress and yes, the symptoms did go away.

Getting over panic attacks didn't happen overnight.  In fact, it took about 3-4 months for all my symptoms to disappear.  It was through the steady process of hypnotherapy that I experienced tremendous healing, not only for panic attacks, but in many areas of my life.   I learned valuable lessons, acquired tools for self maintenance and experienced personal growth like I never imagined possible.  I was also able to achieve everything without having to take anxiety medications which are so commonly prescribed for panic attacks.

The hypnotherapist guided the process in a way that allowed me to be in control and participate in my own treatment.  I found the techniques to be gentle and safe; yet powerful, effective, and very life changing.  I also discovered that hypnotherapy did not conflict with my Christian beliefs and background.  In fact, in many ways it enhanced and enriched them.

As a result of my personal experience with hypnotherapy and, after seeing similar results in the lives of people I referred to the hypnotherapist, I knew that this is what I wanted to do.  Having an extensive background working with people in several different capacities, I could see the potential hypnotherapy could provide in bringing about positive and dynamic change.   I also had a desire to share this information with the Christian world, to dispell myths and clear up misunderstanding of the tools to make the modality available to Christians when needed.

So, I went back to school and became certified in hypnotherapy and NLP.  I added the new skills to my background in nursing, years of teaching and speaking in both secular and religious capacities, and over 30 years of ministry experience.  The end result has been fantastic.   I have experienced great satisfaction working with a wide variety of people from many different belief backgrounds.  It's wonderful to help people make positive changes in their lives.  It is my desire to respect each individual that I have the privilege to work with, partnering with them to bring about the outcome they desire.

Hypnotherapy changed and enriched my life.  I will always be grateful for that first panic attack which opened up a whole new world for me.
